Mileage (Book Project)

2019 - Current
Pirate Contemporary, Lakewood, CO

Tables, 3-ring binders, images, and mileage from private and used automobile websites. Background mono-prints of tire tread from the 2021 installation PM2.5. Currently over 17,500 images recording the total number of miles these cars have traveled, an indicator of the amount of alternative emissions and pollutants, applying not only to gas and diesel but electric and alternative fuel vehicles, that have been released into the atmosphere.

PM2.5

2019 - 2021
Installation at Bridge Project Gallery, Denver

Focus:

PM2.5 is air pollution particle matter measuring 2.5 microns in size. This installation was focused on non-exhaust auto emissions (NEE). As of 2017 there were over a billion vehicles in the world and by 2037 that number will double based on current rates of demand and production. About 4,2 million people die from air pollution related illnesses every year. Most talked about is CO2 emissions but what has been overlooked with very little research is the is the amount of rubber and metallic dust and slug as well as chemicals released into the atmosphere from auto production and paving operations. Recent studies point to these particles as being more dangerous to our atmosphere and bodies than gas and diesel exhaust, a potential explanation for the rise in respiratory, brain and other debilitating body diseases as well as major contributors to climate change and global warming.

Components:

Automobile Tire Prints are over 200 feet of mono-prints made by inking a section of auto tire tread with water-based ink and printing with the weight of my body on architectural plotter paper.

Mileage is a book project comprised of 3-ring binders with images and mileage from private and used automobile websites. Currently over 17,500 images recording the total number of miles these cars have traveled, an indicator of the amount of alternative emissions and pollutants, applying not only to gas and diesel but electric and alternative fuel vehicles, that have been released into the atmosphere.

Emissions Statistical Poetry originates from various environmental studies. Most talk about CO2 emissions by vehicles but what has been overlooked with little research is the amount of rubber and metallic dust generated through driving and vehicle production. Some studies point to these particulates as contributors to dementia, Alzheimer’s and other degenerative mental diseases.
